Frequently Asked Questions
I have never tried yoga before, is the class suitable for me?
Yoga is suitable for anyone who wants to dust the cobwebs from their body and feel energised. If you are willing to believe in your body, have a heart that is open to trying new things and are able to (occasionally) laugh at yourself then the class is suitable for you. Previous experience and high levels of fitness are not necessary.
If you have any pre-existing medical conditions please ask to your doctor or physio for their advice, and make sure you inform your yoga teacher before joining the class. Depending on your medical condition it may be that a tailored private class is more suitable for you than a group class.
What are the benefits of yoga?
Our way of life can lead to our thoughts becoming cluttered and bodies becoming depressed. We are often forced to spend our time in unnatural positions, such as sitting at a desk in front of computer for long periods. Yoga poses and breathing exercises act to restore our body to its natural self, while at the same time helping to calm our thoughts and quieten the mind.
The NHS states that there is evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress.
Do you offer private, one-to-one classes?
Yes, I can offer private classes for people in Hockley, Hawkwell and Rochford. Private classes are suitable if you feel that you would like to build up confidence before joining a group class, or have a condition that would benefit from a tailored class.
Do I need to book? How much is the class?
It is not neccessary to book for group classes, but places are limited and available on a first-come-first serve basis so it is a good idea to arrive early to secure your place if you can.
Group classes are priced at £6 for walk-in students. Discounted block bookings of six classes are available for £30.
Do I need my own mat?
If you have your own mat please bring it to the class, but if not then I have spare mats available.
Is yoga suitable for men?
Absolutely. Yoga originates from India where it has been developed and practiced by men for thousands of years.
Where in Hockley is your class?
The yoga class is located in central Hockley at 7a Eldon Way Industrial Estate, SS5 4AD.
To find the industrial estate, take Eldon Way next to the Royal Mail sorting office. At the end of Eldon Way, turn left and head towards CJ´s Bowling Alley. Unit 7a is directly next door to CJ´s, upstairs at "The Massive Project" youth club. Use the outdoor fire escape stairs to access the building. You will see my bag of yoga mats outside and the door will be open.
